| 39th Annual GDBA Masters qualifying set for 300 Bowl The 39th Annual Greater Detroit Bowling Association Masters Tournament qualifying is slated to begin at 10 a.m. Saturday., Feb. 2 at 300 Bowl in Waterford Township. The qualifying will be conducted in two squads on Feb. 2 with the bowlers returning on Sunday to complete the eight games. Those bowlers who bowl the first shift on Saturday will bowl the second shift on Sunday and vice-versa. After qualifying is complete the field of 160 will be cut to the top 31 players plus defending champion Mark Moore of Macomb and return for double elimination match play beginning Saturday., Feb. 9. Matches consist of three games total pins. First place will pay $3,000 with $1,500 for runner-up. Bowlers can expect to face a challenging lane condition, which places a premium on their skill as bowlers. The tournament is a recognized Sport Bowling event by the American Bowling Congress. Former champions entered are Dick Beattie of Dearborn (1974, 1980 & 1981), Fred McClain of Allen Park (1978), Ken Lang of Eastpointe (1987), Dave Tulak of Wyandotte (1988), Jerry Penxa of Romeo (1989), Bob Chamberlain of Auburn Hills (1990), Terry Dockery of Fraser (1993), Gene Stus of Taylor (1994), Tony Dadeppo of Troy (1995), Ken Kossick of Canton (1997), Doug Evans of Southgate (1998), Joe Krajenke of Clinton Township (1999) and Mark Moore of Macomb (2001).
