| Harley Trumbull Jr. wins $1,500 first prize in GDBA Senior Masters at Classic Lanes Harley Trumbull Jr. of New Boston, averaged 216 and remained undefeated to win his second GDBA Senior Masters crown at Classic Lanes in Rochester Hills to earn the $1,500 first prize check. He also won the 1996 GDBA Senior Masters. Trumbull defeated Bob Arnold of Clinton Township 490-447 in the final match on games of 238 & 252. Arnold had games of 202 & 245 to take home the second place check of $1,000. Trumbull beat six opponents after qualifying in 30th position with an eight-game total of 1,692. His victims leading to the final match were Pete Minaudo of Chesterfield 445-432, Richard Kurt of St. Clair Shores 400-350, Gene Stus of Taylor 447-366, Bob Chamberlain of Auburn Hills 425-407 and Arnold 426-365 to knock Arnold into the once-defeated bracket. Arnold remained in the winner's bracket until being knocked down into the once-defeated bracket by Trumbull. After qualifying eighth with 1,805 he knocked off Rick Capaldi of Canton 390-314, Charles Cassise of Taylor 388-351, Larry Franz of Redford 512-457, John Staricha of Highland 515-352 before falling to Trumbull the first time. Once in the once-defeated bracket he beat Stus 436-356 for the opportunity to avenge the earlier defeat. Stus was third for $750, while Lee Snow of Wixom was fourth for $500. Stus qualified 27th with a total of 1,699. He beat Fred McClain of Allen Park 483-426 and Roy Sonier of Southgate 460-404 before falling to Trumbull 447-366 on lanes seven and eight. Once in the once-defeated bracket he became known as the southpaw slayer winning three of the next four matches against left-handed bowlers. He beat Dick Beattie of Dearborn 537-524, high qualifier Jerry Owczarski of South Lyon 437-410, Staricha 467-385, Snow 449-368 before getting eliminated by Arnold 436-356 on lane seven and eight to end his quest. Beattie, Owczarski and Snow are all left-handed. Snow qualified 21st with 1,725. He beat William Parker of Rockwood 438-427, Bob Garrett of Waterford Township 460-347 before falling to Staricha 450-426. Once in the lower bracket he defeated Dan Mayer of Waterford Township 463-440, Chuck Haus of Linden 442-378, Chamberlain 473-443 before falling to Stus 449-368. Enrico Odorico of Macomb won the DiLaura Brothers Super Senior competition for non-qualifiers 60 years of age and over. He defeated Larry Dagenais of Troy 236-176 for the title.
