| Jerry Owczarski leads qualifying in GDBA Senior Masters The 10th Annual Greater Detroit Bowling Association Senior Masters tournament qualifying wrapped up Sunday. Jan. 20 with South Lyon resident Jerry Owczarski leading the way with an eight-game total of 1,930 at Classic Lanes in Rochester Hills. The left-handed Owczarski earned $50 for being high qualifier. Owczarski's four-game blocks were 982 and 948, which included games of 244-257-267-214-207-225-238-278. Other notables going into match play on Jan. 26 are three-time Senior Masters champion (1994, 1995 & 2001) Scotty Laughland of Windsor; 1998 Masters champion and two-time Senior Masters champion (1999 & 2000) Doug Evans of Southgate; 1977 Masters champion John Bennett of Clarkston; 1978 Masters champion Fred McClain of Allen Park; 1990 Masters champion Bob Chamberlain of Auburn Hills who was the second leading qualifier with 1,882; 1994 Masters champion Gene Stus of Taylor; 1996 Senior Masters champion Harley Trumbull Jr. of Lincoln Park and three-time Masters champion (1974, 1975 & 1981) Dick Beattie of Dearborn. Charles Cassise of Taylor recorded a 300 game in the last game of qualifying to make the match play finals by 26 pins. Match play will start at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 26 at Classic Lanes in Rochester Hills. Classic Lanes is located at 2145 Avon Industrial, Phone (248) 852-9100.
