Detroit Women's Bowling Association's newsletter

By ROSE MARSH

Now that the holidays are over, everyone should be back to their everyday schedule and to the last half of their bowling season. How that time flies! With the end of the first half, we are looking for the December 31st averages of your bowlers.

The average sheets were mailed to the secretaries the first part of December. These sheets are needed to verify averages of members scheduled to bowl in tournaments and who do not have a 2000/2001 yearbook average. We hope to get these sheets without having to revert to the "nagging" system.

Entry blanks for our 76th Annual City Tournament have also been mailed to the secretaries and presidents. The tournament will run from February 16th through March 17th, weekends only, at Sterling Lanes, Schoenherr and 14 Mile Rd. Closing date for entries is January 25th. Hopefully, the officers will help promote this event and we'll get more teams than we had last year.

Don't know if everyone has noticed but bowling is getting a lot more exposure on TV. It's included in the story line of many of the shows and leaves you with the impression that it is so much fun. And bowling is supposed to be fun.

February is "Bowl for the Cure" month and WIBC is again asking each league to designate one bowling session as "Bowl for the Cure" day. Bowlers may donate one "penny per pin" (or any amount they wish) for the series bowled during the designated session. Recognition will be given to the top 10 participating leagues, largest league donation, highest average donation per bowler and highest total pinfall. League packets containing information on the 2002 "Bowl for the Cure" program, a league donation envelope and breast health information were mailed in December to WIBC league secretaries on record as of November 28th. If you did not get a packet, or enough cards, we've requested WIBC to send a supply to our office so we'll have them available if requested. To help promote this program, we now have "Bowl for the Cure" pins in our office. There are three different pins and are $5.00 each. They will also be available at our City Tournament.
