| Missouri bowler sets WIBC record Karen Rosenburg of Rolla, Mo., rolled the highest three-game series in Women's International Bowling Congress history Dec. 12 with 878 in the Coachlite Queens League at Coachlite Lanes. Rosenburg, 37, had 299, 279 and 300 games to move past the 877 series rolled by Jackie Mitskavich in Van Wert, Ohio, on Aug. 10, 1997. "I really didn't pay attention to the series. I just wanted to shoot an 800," said Rosenburg, who rolled 847 just 11 days earlier in the Missouri State Mixed Doubles Tournament in Arnold. "About the seventh frame of the last game I thought it was possible to shoot a 300 but I didn't pay attention to what the series was." When Rosenburg finished, she was told her 878 might be a WIBC record. "It all was so unbelievable what I had done," she said. "I thought, 'Wow.' I really can't think what was going through my mind. There's no words to describe what I was thinking and how I felt." A doctor's office manager, Rosenburg rolled her first 300 game in 1992 and had her first 800 series in 1997, an 814. Both scores were bowled at Coachlite Lanes. She was averaging 220 in the Coachlite Queens League. Rosenburg grew up in Cape Girardeau, Mo., and began bowling in youth leagues there at age 13. She moved to Rolla in 1986 with husband David. The couple has a son, Brandon, 10. She has competed in some professional women's regional events, winning one in St. Louis in the mid-1990s. "I always wanted to go pro but never made the move," she said. "I have a good job and wasn't sure if I wanted to leave my family. "There's been a lot of talk about me going pro. I explained to people that it takes more than three games to go pro." Rosenburg, who competed in the 1982 WIBC Tournament in St. Louis and 1997 WIBC in Reno, Nev., plans to enter her first WIBC Queens in May in Milwaukee.
