If all of us had his energy and enthusiasm. He's one of our best promoters of the game and has come up with some very successful programs. He became involved in the production of the first Bowler's Digest in 1976. He became Associate Editor in 1980 after completing journalism training at the University of Michigan. Working diligently, he became Managing Editor of the Digest after Steve Cruchonpassed away. He helped develop the Annual Steve Cruchon Memorial Tournament with Tom McKay,Ken Charrette, Lou Ivancik and Dee Cruchon. Its main purpose was to raise money forthe International Bowling Hall of Fame and Museum and the Karmanos CancerInstitute, which they did, accumulating over $13,000 over a ten year span. Participatingin this tournament, he and his partner, Rick Eiermann, defeated Tom McKay and BobWissmuller in 1994 in the final match. He was instrumental in getting the local associations interested in conducting a BowlingExpo at the Gibraltar Trade Center. This to make people aware of bowling and itsbenefits. Other innovative ideas - developed a pilot for bowling TV show with WJR's MichaelBarr. More spectacular was his bringing the BPAA U.S. Open to Joe Louis Arena withthe support of Bowl One's Bill Strike, Ron Wengilikowski and promoter Jim Hawkins. With his expertise, he helped launch the GDBA Newsletter and is Editor of the GDBA/DWBA Yearbook. And, he's a bowler. Has a high average of 196, high game of 290 and 786 series.Rick was appointed GDBA Director in 1987, received GDBA's Meritorious ServiceAward in 1989 and was named GDBA's Director of the Year in 1993. He's young and energetic and his mind keeps working, coming up with new ideas formore exposure of the game of bowling. It's obvious why he is getting the Meritorious Award. **************************************************************** Selected to receive the Judge John D. Watts Award were Howard Kracht and JarvisWoehlke for their promotion of the game of bowling. The Thomas McKay Award will be presented to Herb Fach, Past President of the GDBAand a booster of the game of ten pins and its programs. |
