| Motor City Classic October 4, 2001 Motor City Classic News The MCC started its season with two doubles tournaments, September 22nd and 29th, at Thunderbowl Lanes. $1,000 first place winners of the Open/Senior Division were Gerald Johnson, Detroit, and Al Stroud, Detroit. Vern Flowers, West Bloomfield, and Vicki Ingham, Livonia, won the mixed doubles event worth $800. Leading qualifiers in the Open/Senior Division were Emilio Mora Sr. & Jr., Defiance, OH, with a combined score of 2337. Not too far behind with 2316 were Ernie Segura Sr., Brownstown Twp., and Ernie Segura Jr., Taylor. Other qualifiers were Ken Rogers, Detroit, and Leon Berrien, Detroit, 2264, Enrico Odorico, Macomb Twp., and Bob Kozlowski, St. Clair Shores, 2253, Joel Eitner, Taylor, and Charles Tocco, Rockwood, 2252, Stroud/Johnson, 2239, Craig and Matt Randall, Allen Park, 2222, and Ken Kossick, Canton, and Lee Snow, Wixom, 2208. Match play saw the duo of Stroud/Johnson reach the finals with decisions over Rogers/Berrien, 441-357 and Randall/Randall, 452-437. Coming out of the other bracket to the finals were Mora/Mora with victories over Snow/Kossick, 523-407, and Odoric/Kozlowski, 457-456. In the title game Odorico finished with 213 while Stroud threw a 227 for a slim 14 point margin. Kozlowski ended with 207 and Johnson 213 for a 20 pin victory. Second place was worth $500 for the Moras'. While no honor scores were awarded, good scoring was the rule. High game among the seniors were Ernie Segura Sr. and Vern Flowers, West Bloomfield, with 268 while Matt Randall recorded a pair of 289's in the open group. The Mixed Doubles proved to be one sided as the team of Vern Flowers and Vicki Ingham, Livonia, shot a total of 1477 to win by a large margin. Flowers had games of 249-236-245-730, also the tournament leading totals, while Ingham shot 290-190-214-694. Ingham's 290 honor score was the tournament high game. Other cashing teams were Al Stroud/Tricia Grant, 1341, Kit Floyd/Novella white, 1336, Marcus Spigner/Renee Radtke, 1333, and Gerald Johnson/Carmen Allen, 1331. Men's top individual scores were Marcus spigner 257/691, Al Stroud, 684, and Bob Varga, 248/683. Leading the women were Angela Wilt, 243-267/724, Darlene Dysart, 259-245/672, and Sonja Butler, 242/660. The tournament was handicapped 100% from 440. No team was allowed over that total.
